I've got a teeshirt
of a place I once visited
but never really saw
the newspaper shows
a place I don't know
in the grip of some awful claw

my cellphone cracked
when I dropped in on the steps
I lost that picture of you
in your slip one afternoon
I can't remember what you smell like

there's a place that I go
sometimes when I'm dreaming
I can't remember when I wake
but I know that I liked it
laying by your side
your hair so curly and tickling my face

and unless something changes
most of our routine days are lost to the ether
like nothing worth a memory
has ever befallen me
it's so hard to find something to cling to

so I lost 20 pounds
in the weeks shortly after
you grabbed your belongings while I was working
you packed your car not going to far
to your friend's house in town
with all but our bedsheets

but remember when I first kissed you
or was it actually you who first kissed me
because years have a habit of slipping away
but all I can say is that I want to relive that
