we came on a ship
sailed from the east
to hunt great beasts beneath the seas

and I write you how it hurts
to feel undone
my heart flutters with the sails

and I yearn for something new
for what I discern
is to unlearn all I've learned

Mary says I'm blind
and of another time
he's right, my fight has all but died

when I dreamt of a bird
soaring above the sea
in it's guts were human-beings

when the island I found
it all cluttered with stars
killing the places that were dark

if all that I've seen
truly follows me
would you believe?

I sit on the bow
the night watch
and see a stilt pass the mast

and somewhere afar
a fire, a beach
a feast, the smoke scents the air

I drift off to sleep
with my head on my knees
and see a big colony

of towering trees
all dropping their leaves
and me sitting by
