lyrics

we were young for a fortnight of common bed
nomenclature of tongue-tied twisted dread
and we came for a feeling of reprieve
from the heat

forty acres of farmland in the hills
far away from the capital
and it rains down what we don't know
from their drones

a Soviet name carved into stone
landmines dug in as seeds are sown
we can speak in whispers
beneath the firs

poppy milk turned black as my sister's hair
our plots burned during our evening prayers
we will learn the names of their guns
with our sons
